Just a note that I will be showing my work in the window of the Arcade PennySaver during the Arcade Winterfest. It will be up for about 2 weeks. These are all paintings from my trip to Alaska. ( That is all but the polar bear ). There will be work in other places from other artists as well. I believe the Wyoming Council for the Arts is to have a both there as well.

Well, it's December already. We returned from Alaska early in July. Amazing trip. I have completed a few paintings from there and plan to do more. I just uploaded them to my site. The painting "Alaska On My Mind" is what Alaska represents to me. The treeline viewed against the ragged mountainside. The painting of the Muncho Lake shoreline is about the beautiful greens against the purples and lavenders of the mountains, and I love the colorful little buildings at Halibut Cove. If anyone has a chance, it is definitely a trip worth taking.

We were camped @ Congdon Lake, Yukon Territory. I was painting this about 9 pm with mosquitoes big enough to be man-eaters. I sprayed myself down along with most of my gear. A fairly large gray bird about the size of a bluebird landed on my paintbox right in front of my face. He tried to take out a piece of sandpaper I keep in there. I could have just moved my hand a little and touched him. He finally flew off without the sandpaper. A little bit later an owl flew just over my head. I didn't see it but the sound of his wings was amazing. It made me duck for cover. Very spooky, starting to get dusk but definitely not dark. This is bear country. It makes me paint a little bit faster.

We've been on the road for over 2 weeks now and I've only done 4 small studies. It is surprising how little time or energy I have @ the end of a day to do any painting. But it is getting better. We have been stopping a bit more often and the daylight is still good past 10:00 pm and comes up @ 4:00 am. But a successful study does me more good than 8 hrs. of sleep. I did a small (8x10) acrylic of Summit Lake & another of Muncho Lake, Yukon Territory. We are now in Whitehorse, YT and hope to stay 2 nights. I'm going to try to get something done then.

My wife and I plan on leaving for Alaska within the next couple of weeks. I hope to do a lot of plein air painting while we are traveling. We will be towing a 5th wheel camper and plan on taking our time. If I can figure out how to do it I will download some of my work as we go along. If you have visited Alaska and have any suggestions send me an e-mail and let me know your thoughts. It will be appreciated.

I have decide to add PayPal to my site. I have had mixed feelings about doing that but I've been told that sometimes I can be hard to get ahold 0f and there are days that W.G. Handyside Gallery isn't open. I also know it is very secure.
Another thing if you are an artist, or just interested in art, I logged on to Gil Dellingers' blog and I enjoyed reading it very much. He is very informative and very honest about his dealings with galleries and other things that he does. I appreciate that very much coming from an established artist like he is. That is how we all learn. Take a look. ( I hope he doesn't mind my posting this).
