About the Artist
Biography

Philip was born in 1948 and lives in Delevan, NY, a rural area of western NY, about 50 miles south of Buffalo. He has drawn since childhood and was an art major in high school. That is about the extent of any formal training but he has recently been working in acrylics with John Wade from Holland, NY. John is a past president of the Buffalo Art Society.
Philip says he hasn't done any serious work until the last few years. "It is something I always meant to do, but I've never been able to find the time until recently. It's one of those things that seems to be on your mind constantly but you can never quite get to it".
"I never know what might inspire me from one day to the next. I see things in terms of color, shapes, edges, textures, and light. I like a painting that is interesting, not clarified too much. I admire artists that paint with a little mystery in their work. Artists that can lay down a brush stroke and leave it".
In 2005 Philip was juried into the Art Dialogs' WNY Artists Group first National Small Works Exhibition in Buffalo, NY. He says he was lucky enough to be awarded 3rd  place and sold the painting. He is a member of the Wyoming County Arts Council. He is also an associate member of the Buffalo Art Society as well as a member of the Ar Dialogue WNY Artists Group. He is represented by W.G. Handyside Gallery in Wyoming,NY.Philip will be exhibiting @ the Allentown Art Festival in Buffalo,NY on June 13 and 14, 2009. Stop by and say hello.
Note: We were at Allentown this year (2010) and had a very successful weekend. We would like to thank everyone who stopped by, whether you bought a painting or not. Of course, a very special thank you to those who did take a painting home with them. I hope you enjoy it for a long time to come. Also, I have a painting on view @ the Carnegie Art Museum in N. Tonawanda, NY until July 18.
